Web Pet Peeves

Validation Fad

In the past few years, people have been getting obbsessed with something called validation. Basicly, it is where you enter your site url on this website, and then it tells you all the things that you did wrong in regards to your coding. If you pass the test, you get to put an annoying yellow button on your site that says "HTML/CSS Validated". The button doesn't match with anybody's layout, but people still feel the need to include it on every single page. I guess people are afraid that the Validation Police are going to send them to jail if they use <b> instead of <strong>. Because even though they both bold text the same way in every single browser out there, the browser doesn't like it. And everyone knows that the most important thing about having a website is to make sure that the broswer likes the code you use. So please, be nice to your browser and validate your code!

Celeb Layouts

Everyone knows that if you want people to like your site, you need to plaster it with everyone's favorite 14 year old popstar. Hannah Montana is practicly a free ticket to website popularity. Since everyone and their mother loves Hannah Montana, it makes sense to make her the focal point of your entire website. Heck, you don't even need any content. People will return to your site everyday JUST to see her smiling face. If you really want people to like your website, tell everyone you are Miley's cousin. People will pay you $5 to deliver a message to her.

Myspace sites on Myspace

This is seriously my biggest pet peeve EVER! There are hundreds of these "layout sites" on myspace that all look the same and have the same exact content. They consider themselves "layout makers" because they found a background on Photobucket and pasted the url into a premade stylesheet and call it a layout. But before you can even get to all the exciting and original "content", you have to navigate through 20 rule pages that are there to make sure no one steals the background that the owner spent hours searching on Photobucket for. You have to click on the letter "B" in the 26th rule to make sure that you actually read all of the rules. Once you get to the content, there are tons of signs that say "No Jocking!" because everyone knows that a sign that you stole from someone is really going to keep people from stealing your stolen content. My favorite part of everyone Myspace site on Myspace is the icon page. The owner makes 10 new icons a day. But it is funny, because every site has the same exact icons. And if you look on Photobucket, the same icons are there. Myspace sites on Myspace are soooo pathetic. If your site is hosted on Myspace, then you obviously don't even know basic HTML. Who would use a layout "made" by someone who doesn't even know how to make their own website.

Pimp Myspace and other sites of similar consistancy

These "Myspace Pimper" sites that have 1000's of new layouts added daily are on my "Most Hated" list. Have you even wondered how someone could add 50 new layouts to their site everyday? The truth is, they don't. These layout sites buy all their content from other people. If they don't buy it, they steal it. They have millions of ads and popups on every page. Their main goal is to make money. There are websites where you can buy a zip file that has a whole Myspace Layout Site. All they need to do is upload it to a domain and their work is done. If you ever take a look at a few sites like this, you will notice that they all have the exact same layouts. This is because they all bought them from the same place. The reason I hate them is because Myspace users go to dumb sites like that first before they even think of going to a site like mine. They have an unfair advantage and it is not fair that websites like mine spend HOURS creating ALL of their content and get a few hundred hits a day, while other sites that bought all their content get thousands of hits a day. So please remember this when you are picking a site to get your layouts from. By going to sites like mine, you are supporting people who actually make all their content.
